The Crusades were a series of wars fought by the Christians against the Muslims to try to reclaim Jerusalem from the Seljuk Turks, a muslim tribe, after they had captured the city in 1095. Jerusalem was important to the Christians because it's where Jesus died on the Cross. But it was the Muslims' holy land, too.During the 1st crusade their were 2 main missions the pauper's ( ordinary people) crusade and the barron's crusade ( knights, noble, and riches). The pauper's crusade was lead by a preacher named Peter the Hermit. There were many crusade, essentialy their were 4 main crusades, the 1st crusade, the 2nd crusade, the 3rd crusade, and The Children's Crusade. The most tragic crusade was the Children's crusade. It was fought by girls and boys 10-18. No one reached the Holy Land, many froze or starved to death, the ones who didn't drowned at sea. The 3rd crusade was probably the most memorable, after the 3rd crusade King Richard I of England and Saladin, a muslim leader, signed a treaty so Christian pilgrams could visit the Jeruslam, but after that there were still cusades to gain sole possien of The Holy Land ( Jerusalem). The Crusades lead to many things like increase of trade and a new way of looking at the arts and sciences which lead to the Renaissance
